Innovative Design Saved on Costs While Reducing Dose Rates

MHF brings a presence of professionalism and knowledge while performing their tasks.

MHF Services (MHF) was recently lauded by a prominent client for improving on previous packaging designs that saved time and money while reducing dose rates.

MHF Services was contracted to fabricate a custom contamination cover for a nuclear reactor head replacement project conducted by AREVA, N.P. The goal was to reduce the amount of time spent by workers in positioning the cover over the reactor head, thereby minimizing the workers’ exposure and expediting the schedule for this activity during a critical path outage.

AREVA’s Project Manager Scott Rector said, “As a lesson learned from previous outages where contamination bags were used to cover an entire reactor vessel head and its subcomponents, AREVA was challenged with designing and fabricating a bag that could be installed in less time and using less dose than the previous outage. AREVA designed a bag with very precise and specific tolerances, then contracted MHF to fabricate this design. MHF did an extremely good job fabricating this bag to the tight tolerances and in doing so, helped AREVA to achieve a new ’fastest time‘ for installation of this bag. AREVA would like to thank MHF for their diligence in craftsmanship and quality.”

Mr. Rector concluded, “MHF brings a presence of professionalism and knowledge while performing their tasks.”

MHF designs and manufactures custom packaging for a variety of applications in the nuclear, hazardous and specialty cargo markets.
