Mike Fries of Liberty Global Named 2010 Communications Executive of the Year by Communications Technology Professionals

Communications Technology Professionals to Present Award At The Brown Palace Hotel on April 7, 2011 in Denver, Colorado

Michael T. Fries, President and CEO of Liberty Global, Inc. (LGI) was named the Communications Technology Professionals (CTP) 2010 Communications Executive of the Year (CEY). Now in its 11th year, this annual award recognizes the Colorado communications executive that demonstrates the highest standards of leadership, vision, and social responsibility. Mr. Fries will be honored at CTP’s annual awards dinner on April 7th at The Brown Palace Hotel.

A 20-year veteran of the cable and media industry, Mr. Fries has spent nearly his entire career developing, building and managing international cable television and programming businesses, including the operations that today form Liberty Global. Based in Denver, LGI is now the 2nd largest cable TV company in the world with over 27 million video, voice, and broadband Internet subscribers, operations in 14 countries and $9 billion of annual revenue.

“Mike is a pioneer in the communications sector and has demonstrated over 20 years of leadership and innovation in his work, his industry, and his community,” said Joshua Holmberg, President of Communications Technology Professionals. “As President and CEO of Liberty Global, he has helped ensure that Denver remains the “cable capital” of the world, while at the same time directing a significant amount of time and resources into the civic and charitable causes that help sustain and energize Colorado. These qualities make him an ideal recipient of this prestigious award.”

Mr. Fries is a member of Liberty Global’s board of directors and its two-person executive committee along with the company’s chairman, Dr. John C. Malone. He is an active industry partner at the World Economic Forum and a member of Young Presidents Organization.

I continue to be impressed with his energy, drive, and leadership as CEO of LGI and am proud of the contributions he has made to Colorado. This award is well deserved.”

Mr. Fries currently serves on the board of a number of professional and philanthropic organizations including CableLabs, The Cable Center, Colorado Forum, Museum of Contemporary Art Denver, The Denver Biennial of the Americas, Alliance for Choice in Education and Graland Country Day School. He is also on the board of two successful, Colorado-based companies – Viawest and Smashburger.

Mr. Fries holds a Bachelors Degree from Wesleyan University and an MBA from Columbia University.

2010 Communications Executive of the Year Award
CTP’s Communications Executive of the Year Award is the most prestigious award for executives in Colorado’s communications industry. The award promotes the industry’s dynamism and competitiveness by recognizing the contributions of those leaders and visionaries, who inspire others, contribute to Colorado’s economy and make a positive impact on the community. Now in its 11th year, the CEY Award celebrates those that help make Colorado a premiere destination for communications and technology companies to establish and thrive. The selection committee for the award consists of CTP’s executive board, and current board and from the recommendations of its community of over 2,500 associates.

Additionally, CTP will be awarding the Ascent Award to the firm that best represents the Colorado spirit of innovation, growth and drive in telecommunications and is poised to make a near-term impact on the communications industry. The award will also be presented at CTP’s annual awards dinner on April 7, 2011 at The Brown Palace Hotel.
