To celebrate the launch of this new category on its e-commerce web site, Hadley Pottery is giving away prizes worth hundreds of dollars in a pet photo contest that runs through February.

Dog bowls, cat bowls and treat jars have been added to Hadley Pottery’s e-commerce web site, making it easier than ever for Hadley collectors across the country to buy these top-selling items. And, to make collectors aware of the new online category, Hadley is encouraging dog and cat owners to enter the “My Pet is 100% Hadley” pet photo contest to be eligible for valuable prizes offered in three categories.

Hadley Pottery holds a special place on the dining table for many families, and its diverse patterns appeal to a wide variety of interests and decorating styles. In addition to items that the human members of a family use every day, Hadley has sold a number of pet products at retail locations for many years. Pet items were not included on Hadley’s e-commerce site when it first launched in 2010, but due to consumer requests, it recently added eight pet pieces.

Elaine Burkhardt, Director of Marketing for Hadley Pottery, is looking forward to seeing the photos that Hadley collectors submit for the contest. She says the company is looking for photos of dogs, cats and other pets that are “as Hadley as Hadley Pottery itself. Is your pet loving, warm, adorable, unique, or maybe even a little quirky? Like Hadley Pottery, our pets are often a real conversation starter, and definitely a part of our family,” she says. “We want to celebrate what makes our pets so important to our families.”

To be eligible for the contest, photos should be sent via email to discoveringhadley@yahoo.com, and should not exceed 5MB. In addition to the photo, entrants should provide their name, address, email address, and a sentence or two about what makes their pet “100% Hadley.” All entries must be received by February 28, 2011, and there is a limit of five entries per household. Hadley will select up to 10 finalists in each category, and during March, Hadley Collectors will vote for the winning photographs!

Everyone who enters will receive a Hadley magnetic photo frame, perfect for fridge or file cabinet. Grand Prizes of a pet bowl (dog or cat) plus a $50 gift certificate for http://www.hadleypottery.com will be given to the winners of the contest’s three categories:

  •     100% Hadley Dog!
  •     100% Hadley Cat!
  •     100% Hadley Menagerie (for people with cats and dogs who will be photographed together, or count any other animal as part of their family)

In addition to the Grand Prizes, one “Hadley Honey” prize will be awarded in each of the categories listed above. Hadley Honey winners will receive a free dog or cat bowl.

About Hadley Pottery
Inspired by the designs of renowned artist Mary Alice Hadley, Hadley Pottery is an American classic, cherished by everyday users, enthusiasts, and collectors across the United States and around the world. Often described as simple, whimsical, and warm, the hand-painted Hadley designs are remarkable in their ability to capture the essence and emotion of a time, a place, or a memory.

Hadley stoneware is extremely durable, and is often used by collectors as their every day china. Made from clay native to Kentucky and Indiana, the stoneware is hand-painted, glazed, and then kiln-fired at 2100 degrees Fahrenheit, making it highly resistant to chipping and scratching. It is lead-free and oven, microwave, and dishwasher-safe. Each hand-crafted piece is signed by an artist trained by a protégé of Mary Alice Hadley. The hand painted signature is the mark of genuine Hadley stoneware.

Since Hadley Pottery’s beginning in 1940, its founder’s unique vision and style have been widely imitated. But the original spirit and creative energy of Mary Alice Hadley are still alive in the historic pottery on Story Avenue in Louisville, Kentucky.
