Carolina Beach is easy to reach. Just get on US-74, NC-421 or I-40 and head toward the coast. Upon arriving, visitors will find a variety of family-friendly activities and events to make their stays memorable.

Rent a surrey bike and head through the quaint town center or stroll along the boardwalk while browsing shops, eateries, and the arcade. Head over to Carolina Beach State Park and hike along one of the many trails. Do some bird watching or catch sight of the rare venus flytrap. At Carolina Beach Lake, visitors can rent a paddleboat, canoe or kayak and enjoy nature at its best. Fishing enthusiasts can just grab a pole and enjoy some great surf, pier or bottom fishing. Those who just want to kick back and relax can simply take in the beauty of the Atlantic Ocean, or search for seashells along the coast.

Spring in Carolina Beach offers visitors a ton of family fun. When visiting during the spring, be sure to make some time to check out these great events:

On Saturday, March 5 and Sunday, March 6, the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher plays host to the 4th Annual Scales & Tails. This two-day event offers the opportunity to see, touch and learn about cold-blooded amphibians and reptiles. Experts will be on hand to explain all about alligators, snakes, iguanas, lizards, and turtles. The event is free with aquarium admission.

On Saturdays from April 2 through May 7, the Pleasure Island Fresh Market will be open. Bring the entire family to the Municipal Marina and shop the produce and other delectable goodies.

Visitors in town on Friday, April 1, and Saturday, April 2, will want to come out to the Fort Fisher Air Force Recreation Center to see some cool cars and trucks at the Back to the Beach Car Show. This family-friendly event will also feature raffles, music, and food and beverage vendors.

The 15th Annual Pleasure Island Chowder Cook-off on Saturday, April 17, is one of the highlights of the spring on the coast. Savor some of the very best chowder in the area, and after sampling them all, cast a vote for this year’s favorite. This family-friendly event will also feature live music, and a Kidz Zone with face painting, balloon art and a giant inflatable slide. Fun foods like hot dogs, funnel cakes, and fudge will also be available.

Carolina Beach offers the delights of a beach getaway, yet is close to a variety of activities just outside its borders. When staying in Carolina Beach, it's just a short way to its sister beach, Kure Beach, which is also on Pleasure Island. On April 30, the Kure Beach Street Festival will be in full force, providing a good time for all.

Historic Wilmington is just 15 miles from Carolina Beach. From April 6 through April 10, Wilmington plays host to the NC Azalea Festival. As Wilmington's stunning azaleas burst into bloom throughout the city, the celebration of Wilmington's exceptional artwork, gardens, rich history, culture and entertainment gets underway with a parade, street fair, circus, concerts, and pageantry.

With so much to see and do in Carolina Beach and its surrounding areas, it's always playtime in Carolina Beach.
