VeriRent Finds Solutions for Gaps in Criminal Data

Several states are limiting the criminal data they release. VeriRent, Inc., a nation-wide background screening company, finds a solution to this problem. VeriRent, Inc. continues to provide excellent background screening despite new state initiatives.

The background screening industry is always in a constant state of flux. In the past six months to a year there have even been more changes than normal in the industry and VeriRent, a background screening company, does not anticipate the changes slowing down anytime soon. Several states in the past year have made the decision to not sell their data to large wholesale data vendors. There are several reasons that have prompted them to make this decision. Some states just find it more profitable to give the background screening companies access to their data directly and can make more money charging them by the name rather than selling the data to vendors in bulk sales each month. The state of Kentucky has done this for years. In fact, VeriRent was the first screening company they allowed to access their data directly. Many larger screening companies are not even aware this opportunity exists. Other states, like Tennessee, decided to not release their data at all because of state budget constraints. They say they do not have the money to pay employees to extract and index the data to get it ready to sell in bulk. Tennessee has not released criminal data in database form to anyone since June 1, 2010.

VeriRent enjoys and accepts the challenges of these changes. They have always been a boutique type screening company that is always testing the quality of data from various data vendors and generally knows who has the best data in what part of the country. This means more work for the screeners at VeriRent because, often they have to manually go to a state’s website and retrieve the information and paste it into a uniform format in their reports rather than just access a huge database of data. Since VeriRent is a customer service driven company, these new challenges to provide accurate and timely data is what they do best.

According to Mark Harmon, CEO at VeriRent, the changes in the industry plays right into their hands. When he contacted some of the larger well known data vendors about the situation in Tennessee, they were not aware that the state had not been releasing data. VeriRent found a solution immediately and notified their clients that are located in Tennessee. VeriRent gave them the options available and continue to provide excellent data to its customers in that state.
