TwistHDM Expands Functionality of LimeLight Wireless Lighting Control System through Temperature Guardrail® Program

TwistHDM, the established leader in the development and deployment of wireless lighting technologies for the parking industry, today announced that the system’s Temperature Guardrail patent-pending capability will be included as standard functionality in their LimeLight system.

With numerous installations throughout the country within the university, municipal, corporate, and federal government sectors, LimeLight is reducing energy consumption upwards of 70% while enhancing the safety of parking patrons through the use of the wireless control system. Up to 800 web-enabled and radio controlled fixtures, each with motion and light sensing capability can be managed by a single gateway, creating significant economies of scale and payback within 3 to 4 years by adjusting light levels throughout the entire parking garage during the daytime, and reacting to any motion in the evening hours. Energy consumption is tracked, motion is logged in a database, and with the addition of the Temperature Guardrail algorithms, LED fixtures are dimmed automatically in hot temperatures, and fluorescent fixtures are automatically increased to higher levels of light output in cold temperatures thus warming the fixture’s interior cavity.

“This new functionality is the best of both worlds. LED luminaires don’t like heat, and fluorescents inherently perform at less than optimal levels in the cold,” explains Pat Burel, Director of Client Services at TwistHDM. “The Temperature Guardrail measures the ambient temperature every 30 minutes and makes the adjustments automatically. This results in cooler LEDs and warmer fluorescents – in essence, they both win. It’s another example of the development team at TwistHDM continually looking for ways to leverage the web-enabled high density mesh capabilities of LimeLight for the greater good of the customer.”

TwistHDM has added the Temperature Guardrail for all existing LimeLight users, and now offers the capability as a standard for any new engagement. The system has been installed in Dubuque, Iowa’s four LimeLight garages since early 2011, and the results have exceeded expectations. In their largest garage, energy savings exceed 67% when compared to Dubuque’s previous lighting solution, and the Temperature Guardrail provided the additional functionality for their fluorescent system with 100% reliability.
