Weitz & Luxenberg attorney is selected to help guide legal strategy for lawsuits involving knee implants

Rob Gordon was appointed this month to the Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee for the Zimmer NexGen Knee Implant Products Liability Litigation (MDL 2272). Federal Judge Rebecca Pallmeyer of the Northern District of Illinois appointed Mr. Gordon to the committee, which is responsible for charting the legal cases of dozens and potentially hundreds of plaintiffs against Zimmer, a major medical device manufacturer.

The lawsuits claim that Zimmer’s “high-flex” femoral components and/or MIS tibial components are prone to premature loosening. The premature loosening may cause extensive pain and often requires revision surgery.

The Zimmer NexGen Knee Litigation was granted MDL status last month by the United States Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation. The cases were consolidated because they were based on similar injuries and similar Zimmer products. The purpose of consolidation is to coordinate pretrial procedures for the plaintiffs’ cases.

Rob Gordon is a leading personal injury and products liability attorney at Weitz & Luxenberg, a premier mass torts law firm with offices in New York, New Jersey, and California. He has led other multidistrict litigations before, acting as lead counsel in the Methyl Tertiary Butyl Ether litigation, as well as serving on the Plaintiff Steering Committees for the Breast Implant (MDL 926) and Rezulin (MDL 1348) litigations. Best Lawyers named Mr. Gordon New York's 2011 Mass Tort Litigator of the Year.
