Jim and Marian Ewen who work as Consultants for loose cover and reupholstery specialists, Plumbs, have joined forces with the Lancashire based company to spread the word about their charity.

‘Three Hills Action Trust’ was founded by the couple following an eye-opening trip to Kenya in 2009. The Ewens, Plumbs representatives for the Rutland and Cambridgeshire area, volunteered to journey up-country to the Nguu Tatu district –otherwise known as ‘The Three Hills’.

Mrs Ewen recalls the experience: ‘The children were malnourished, receiving only one small cup of porridge per day. The school was a broken mud hut and the children only had broken pencils and scraps of paper.’

On returning home, the ‘Three Hills Action Trust’ was born. In it’s short life-time, the charity has so far set up a food programme, built a classroom, funded chicken farms, piped water to the village and funded adult literacy classes.

Now, Mr and Mrs Ewen have enlisted the support of Plumbs, who are proud to sponsor the cause. They will help to draw attention to the charity and to personally raise funds for the trust.

Plumbs employees are keen to help in any way they can. 20 employees have already signed up to tackle the infamous ‘Three Peaks Challenge’ in May next year. They are hoping to raise £5000 for the charity by walking up the three biggest mountains in the UK, in just 24 hours.

Chris Plumb, organiser of the event says ‘the enthusiasm of the staff to get on board with this fundraising event has been phenomenal.’ He continues to congratulate the Ewens: ‘I think what the Ewens have done is inspirational and I can assure that they have Plumbs’ full support in making a difference to the Three Hills district.’
