Hotel Felix, Chicago’s first eco-friendly hotel, hosts eco-friendly activities and events throughout Earth Month.

Hotel Felix, located at 111 W. Huron St., helps travelers “stay green” all year long and Earth Month is a time to celebrate. Throughout April, Chicago’s first eco-chic hotel offers a variety of complimentary, eco-friendly activities and art exhibits for guests and Chicagoans alike.

On April 1, Hotel Felix kicked off Earth Month with NBC’s Environmental Reporter Ginger Zee unveiling the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design™ (LEED) Silver certification for commercial interiors from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).

“With a gathering of more than 50 Chicago dignitaries and eco-community leaders, we’re honored to be recognized as Chicago’s first hotel to earn this prestigious distinction,” said George Jordan, general manager of the Hotel Felix Chicago.

The green party continues all month long at Hotel Felix with a green-themed schedule of Earth Month activities, including:

  • Put the [Green] Pedal to the [Green] Metal: All-electric Tesla Roadster and eco-friendly Hotel Felix continue their eco-partnership with an exclusive “Tesla Test Drive” package (http://www.hotelfelixchicago.com/hotel-packages/index.cfm). Speedsters beware: the Tesla Roadster is the world’s only highway-capable electric car that is faster than a Porsche and greener than a Prius. The high-performance vehicle doesn’t use a drop of gas and accelerates from 0-60 mph in just 3.7 seconds. Guests who post photos on Hotel Felix’s Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/hotelfelix) of their test drive experience, either inside or outside of the car, will receive a complimentary test drive the next time they stay at Hotel Felix. During Earth Week, Chicagoans and guests are invited to check out the Tesla Roadster, which will be parked outside Hotel Felix from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., April 18.
  • Eco-Art Exhibit: If life imitates art than Hotel Felix imitates green art. From April 18 - May 5, guests can view and enjoy an art exhibit in the lobby from 360SEE Gallery. The sustainable artists, Curtis Frillmann and Brian Mock, specialize in museum-quality art, furniture and design objects. After May 5, the sustainable art show returns home to 360SEE Gallery (http://www.360seegallery.com).
  • A Green Queen Arrives: What stands at 8-feet tall, has a heart of tin, a hard booty and makes doughnuts in the morning? Doreen! She’s the perfect “woman” and the newest, interactive sculpture from reclaimed materials. Doreen will be unveiled at Hotel Felix at 11 a.m., April 22 (Earth Day), where she’ll then have her permanent home. Allen Christian, the sustainable artist behind the sculpture, will unveil this new masterpiece. Doreen joins “Loren the Doorman,” who stands at 7-feet tall, as the newest addition to Hotel Felix’ staff. Doreen and Loren are two hard-to-miss sustainable sculptures, both created by Christian of House of Balls (http://www.houseofballs.com).
