Exceleron Software, a leading software developer in the prepaid utility industry, and Prepaid Energy Solutions, a leading provider of strategically placed manned pay stations that accept cash payments, have completed direct integration for Exceleron’s Prepaid Account Management System. Direct integration allows cash payments to be posted to prepaid accounts before the consumer returns home, ensuring the smooth continuation or rapid restoration of electric, gas, and water service even on weekends and holidays.
Nearly 60 utilities across the country have chosen to use Exceleron’s Prepaid Account Management System (PAMS) to offer a prepaid program that lets consumers pay for electricity, gas, water, and other services before they use them. Consumers choose the amount and timing of their payments. If the balance of a prepaid account falls to zero, service is disconnected automatically, but it is reconnected automatically within moments of restoring a positive balance.
“We’re always looking for new, convenient payment options to support our utility customers’ prepaid programs,” said Jeff Severs, COO of Exceleron Software. “Our relationship with Prepaid Energy Solutions increases the number of payment locations available to prepaid accountholders, making it more convenient than ever for them to manage their prepaid account balance.”
To date, Exceleron’s PAMS has allowed consumers to add funds to their prepaid accounts online, over the phone, at their local utility office, or at thousands of retail locations. Exceleron’s new partnership with Prepaid Energy Solutions adds nearly 9,000 pay stations across the United States to the list of convenient payment locations.
Utilities using PAMS can work with Prepaid Energy Solutions to identify additional strategic pay station locations in locally owned grocery stores, gas stations, convenience stores, and other businesses. Individuals can make cash payments for a low transaction fee.
“Our unique approach featuring locally owned businesses offers Exceleron’s utilities the most flexibility and convenience for their consumers to make cash payments while also supporting their local economies,” said Jim Plappert, CEO of Prepaid Energy Solutions. “Now we look forward to working with Exceleron’s customers to identify the best, most strategic locations for additional pay stations that will support their growing prepaid programs.”
Almost one-quarter of US households do not use debit or credit cards, so the ability to make cash payments at convenient locations and times is critical to the success of utilities’ prepaid programs.
“Because we have achieved direct integration with Prepaid Energy Solutions, customers whose electricity has been disconnected can have service restored after hours, on weekends, and on holidays,” explained Mr. Severs. “Without direct integration, the prepaid account balance might not be updated until the next business day, potentially leaving consumers quite literally in the dark.”
PAMS users and other utility professionals will have an opportunity to learn more about the partnership between Exceleron and Prepaid Energy Solutions at the 2011 PAMS Users Conference in San Antonio, Texas, October 9-11. Sessions focusing on payment options will discuss the most effective ways to encourage customers to take advantage of all the convenient payment options for managing their prepaid account balance.
