Institution sees faculty satisfaction with launch of new enterprise, open source e-Learning platform.

Enterprise e-Learning solutions to support the goals of education worldwide

We were amazed at the training, preparation and support that Moodlerooms provided to prepare us for the launch of joule.

Keystone College, a fully-accredited, independent, private college in La Plume, Pa., has launched joule®, an enterprise e-Learning platform based on the open-source software, Moodle. joule is delivered by Moodle partner and e-Learning solutions provider, Moodlerooms, which provides Keystone with a fully-supported teaching and learning environment that integrates seamlessly with its student information system and delivers access to e-portfolio capabilities, synchronous communication tools, and a social hub for campus networking and collaboration.

In early 2011, Keystone College’s Academic Technology Committee was tasked by the VP of Academic Affairs to evaluate alternative solutions that would provide for more intuitive, feature-rich and scalable e-Learning for its students to support the continued development of online degrees, hybrid courses, and alternative course delivery methods.

“Our faculty was the main reason behind evaluating new learning management systems,” says Kurt Sussman, director of educational technology for Keystone College. “There was growing dissatisfaction with our previous platform, and upgrading to the enterprise version that would provide the functionality demanded by our increasing e-Learning development was cost prohibitive. We also found it very hard to get support for technical issues that we would encounter.”

After conducting cost and feature comparisons for a variety of learning management systems on the market, in May 2011, Moodlerooms’ joule platform was chosen above the rest. In a few short months, the college migrated content and trained most of its faculty. Although the college is making its previous legacy system available to faculty until June 2012, at the start of the fall semester, 95% of the faculty had already chosen to fully transition to joule.

“We were amazed at the training, preparation and support that Moodlerooms provided to prepare us for the launch of joule,” says Sussman. “By the time of launch, we felt totally comfortable with the system, and were confident in training and answering questions from our faculty and students. Moodlerooms, through their preparation, support, and lightning-fast communications, truly ensured our success.”
