"FISHTAILS: Men who bite, dates that suck, and other adventures from a mid-life fishing expedition" released today on, Each of 31 essays stand alone, but tie together to tell the story of one woman's catapult into single life, and how she coped with her new status with the help of a group of single friends and Internet dating sites.

When her husband moved out right before her 50th birthday, author Nanci Williams coped with midlife single-hood by writing about it. The result of her “humor therapy” is a collection of laugh-out-loud, and sometimes poignant, essays titled FISHTAILS: MEN WHO BITE, DATES THAT SUCK, AND OTHER TALES FROM A MID-LIFE FISHING EXPEDITION.

FISHTAILS (DUBBooks, an imprint of Wyatt MacKenzie, OCT 25, 2012) chronicles the adventures of a cast of characters: the author, her platonic male roommate, and a group of women who call themselves “The Tail Club” through on-line dating adventures and mishaps. People at midlife or finding themselves suddenly single will relate to the humor amongst heartache.

“A delightful book that tells about the joys and pitfalls of revisiting the dating world after a long hiatus from a woman’s perspective. The stories author Nanci Williams tells prove once again that, metaphorically, men are indeed like fish,” reviews Steve Nakamoto, author of the best-selling dating book - Men Are Like Fish: What Every Woman Needs To Know About Catching a Man. “Williams proves her uncanny skill as an enlightened angler in this fun read that thankfully leaves fish (men) unharmed in the process.”

The setting for FISHTAILS is San Jose, California – the Capital of Silicon Valley – where the ratio of men to women is 117 to 100, versus the national average of 97 to 100. One publishing insider called FISHTAILS “Sex and the Smaller City,” while another likened it to something written by David Sedaris, if Sedaris were single, female, and living in the valley of ridiculously smart men.

FISHTAILS is a book for and about a group of consumers referred to in the U.K. as “SWOFties:” Single Women Over Fifty (who prefer night-clubbing and social networking to staying home to dote on grandchildren) – one of the fastest growing segments of the U.S. population. As Nakamoto concludes, however, “even men like me will appreciate Williams’ unique dating insights and women will certainly enjoy the whole adventure.”

Nanci Williams is an advertising professional and freelance writer living and working in San Jose, California. FISHTAILS is her first full-length book.
