Ohio State University debuts new High-Definition Panasonic scoreboard, sound system and fascia board for the Buckeyes’ 2012 football season.

Ohio State University kicked off the Buckeyes’ 2012 football season with a massive, new High-Definition Panasonic scoreboard, sound system and fascia board. The $7 million stadium renovation project replaces an 11-year-old conventional scoreboard and stadium audio system with state-of-the-art technology, including 223 High-Definition displays in all public areas, concession stands and concourses.

“The video board is tremendous with Panasonic’s Surface Mount Diode (SMD) LED technology that provides impeccable clarity and improved viewing angles,” said Don Patko, Associate Athletic Director, Ohio State University Facilities Management. “The Sound System completes the experience with a long throw system all controlled by a new HD Control Room. The new Logos and the TV additions help bring additional representation of OSU’s commitment to its fans for an unforgettable experience. And on top of that, the installation was delivered as promised with a flawless execution.”

The new Panasonic scoreboard measures 5200-square feet, nearly doubling the size of the previous 2700-square feet, non-HD screen. The board features SMD LED technology, offering excellent image clarity, wide viewing angles and exceptional brightness. The South Stands include two ribbon boards (170 feet x 4 feet) to display live statistics and college scores with a special section designated for closed captioning.

The major visual enhancement to the fan’s experience is matched by the newly-installed Pro Sound audio system, which contains a cluster of 25 speakers on each side of the scoreboard to dramatically improve the directional sound. Moreover, speakers under the various decks were upgraded in an environmentally-responsible manner to minimize waste, custom-installing the new speakers to fit seamlessly into the existing framework.

“The quality of our SMD technology is so good that it extends the playing field,” said Jim Doyle, President of Panasonic Eco Solutions North America. “This is one of the best video and audio systems in college sports,”
