The Happy Cafe, a favorite local eatery in Columbia, South Carolina, is pleased to announce that it now has a variety of side dishes, soups and dessert to complete Thanksgiving dinner. Side items that are available for Thanksgiving pickup include old fashioned macaroni and cheese, sausage cheese grits casserole or regular cheese grits, biscuits, barbecue by the pound and any of their sandwich fillings, which include chicken salad, egg salad, tuna salad, ham salad and pimento cheese. The cafe also has Tomato Basil Soup and Shrimp Corn Chowder.
This Thanksgiving, the cafe is also featuring their famous caramel, chocolate, and lemon cakes, which comes in a variety of sizes, including cupcakes and minis. The cafe owner also suggests that Thanksgiving order pickup time is also the perfect time to get whole bean or ground Cashua Coffee, which is roasted in Florence and sold by the pound at The Happy Cafe.
The Happy Cafe will close at noon on the day before Thanksgiving for customers who are picking up their holiday orders, and will reopen on Monday, November 26th. In addition to taking the stress out of holiday cooking, The Happy Cafe offers catering, including a special menu for tailgating parties, and always has casseroles in the freezer for customers who want to stop by and pick one up for supper.
The Happy Cafe also invites everyone to join them for "Oh Happy Night" on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Oh Happy Night is an annual event where The Happy Cafe and several other local merchants stay open late to kick off the holidays. The evening features artists, special wine and more, and most significantly, The Happy Cafe will donate a portion of their proceeds to the Jubilee Academy.

In 2003, Sue Hodges opened the Happy Café in one corner of a local bookstore. The bookstore has since closed, but what began from Sue’s love of food and people is now a thriving lunch spot. Sue and her daughter, Anne Reynolds, prepare homemade soups, sandwiches, wraps, salads, tangy BBQ and a variety of cookies, and caramel cakes.
Sues’s caramel cakes are the best in town. The café sells hundreds every year. For the new customer, Sue is happy to pass around samples.
