Credit Union 1 Uses CafeGive Social to go Social with “60 Days of Giving”: An Alaska Credit Union Giving Program Celebrating Community with Social Media

Credit Union 1 ‘s community giving starts with employee volunteer programs and follows through to community involvement with donation programs. Celebrating sixty years as an organization involved in the community, this Alaska based credit union has implemented 60 days of Giving. By using social media applications from CafeGive Social, CU1 has successfully used social media cause marketing to involve their whole community.

Like Us, Give Back on Credit Union 1's Facebook Page

Credit Union 1 of Alaska has a strong commitment to giving back to the community. Their employees volunteer for over 3,000 hours across the state of Alaska for projects like road cleanup, serving meals to the elderly and providing assistance at fundraising events. This is in addition to the donations made by the organization to support the community; in 2011, donations were over $160,000. For sixty years of service in the state of Alaska, Credit Union is celebrating by giving back even more.

Their innovative giving program, “60 Days of Giving” includes involving their community of supporters on Facebook. By using CafeGive’s Like Us, Give Back application, Credit Union 1 is donating $1 for every new like on their Facebook page to a designated charity. The first phase of the campaign benefitted Brothers and Big Sisters of Alaska. In addition to using social media with Like Us Give Back, employees in the branches also asked for donations. This phase of the campaign raised over $6000 for the cause. The campaign, now in a second phase, is now focused on raising funds for the Food Bank of Alaska’s ‘Poultry in Motion’ drive. There will be a third phase of this campaign, benefiting a youth services organization to be announced.

Credit Union 1 is using a subscription to the CafeGive Social cause marketing platform to create the online component of their campaign. The subscription gives them access to any of the nine CafeGive applications for their Facebook page. Like Us Give Back is easily customized using Credit Union 1’s logo, colors and with one graphical banner created for the campaign. This application is designed to build awareness of the company’s giving and to build support for Credit Union 1’s Facebook page. The application counts new likes on the page and communicates progress against a preselected goal.

“Our community programs focus on supporting organizations across Alaska. We wanted to encourage others in the community to join in by contributing at a branch, by enlisting friends to join our community online, and by encouraging our employees to volunteer. CafeGive Social makes it easy for us to invite our Facebook community, and to ask them to help spread the word,” said Chrissy Bell, Community Engagement and Education Manager at Credit Union 1.
