Beautiful picture books inspire singing, learning, imaginative play

The international early childhood music education program Music Together has announced its new Singalong Storybook division, which will release its first two books today: HELLO, EVERYBODY! and SHE SELLS SEA SHELLS, for ages 1 to 8. The books are available now at http://www.musictogether.com/storybooks, and at http://www.amazon.com in board book and hardback versions.

These beautifully illustrated picture books inspire singing, pre-literacy learning, and imaginative play between children and their favorite adults. They include fun activity suggestions designed to stimulate learning and music-making at home and in the classroom. There is also an online video available about how to use these storybooks musically.

A download of the song each book is based on, is free with storybooks purchased on the Music Together website. Songs are also available on iTunes and on the award-winning Music Together Family Favorites CD. Readers do not have to have taken any Music Together classes to enjoy the stories, songs, and activities.

HELLO, EVERYBODY! follows a family on a fun outing where they visit a playground, take a trolley ride to a museum, befriend a dinosaur, and sing and dance at outdoor community concert on the wharf. On their journey, they greet the world around them -- a multi-cultural, multi-generational community of people. The story is based on the iconic “Hello Song” sung by families and schools at the start of every Music Together class around the world. The book’s illustrator is David Hill. (Board Book $8.95 ISBN: 978-0-9855719-1-7 / Hardback $12.95 ISBN: 978-0-9855719-0-0)

SHE SELLS SEA SHELLS is about a young girl who travels by rowboat with her adorable animal friends to bring colorful seashells to nearby seashore vacationers. The story is an exploration of the many colors, shapes, and sizes of shells left by the creatures of the sea, along with a variety of people who the little girl meets on the beach. The story is based on the well-known tongue-twister, as well as its popular song version from the Music Together curriculum. SHE SELLS SEA SHELLS was illustrated by Bruno Merz. (Board Book $8.95 ISBN: 978-0-9855719-3-1 / Hardback $12.95 ISBN: 978-0-9855719-2-4)

The book has already received four awards: 2012 Dr. Toy 10 Best Audio-Visuals Award; 2012 Dr. Toy 100 Best Children’s Products (#6 ranking); 2012 Mom’s Choice Best in Family-Friendly Media Award; and 2012 Creative Child Magazine Preferred Choice Award.

Celebrating its 25th Anniversary this academic year (2012-2013), Music Together is an internationally recognized early childhood music and movement program for children birth through age seven. The Music Together curriculum, coauthored in 1987 by Kenneth K. Guilmartin (Founder/Director) and Rowan University Professor of Music Education Dr. Lili M. Levinowitz (Director of Research), is based on the recognition that all children are musical: all children can learn to sing in tune, keep a beat, and participate with confidence in the music of our culture, provided that their early environment supports such learning.

Music Together offers programs for families; schools; at-risk populations; and children with special needs, in over 2000 communities in 40 countries around the world. The company is passionately committed to bringing children and their caregivers closer through shared music-making and helping people discover the joy---and the educational value---of early music experiences.
