Federal Jury Acquits Des Moines Man Charged with Arson and Mail Fraud

This was an important win for the causes of liberty and justice.

Des Moines resident Andy Blobaum was acquitted by a Federal Jury after a week-long trial. According to court documents, Mr. Blobaum was indicted on four counts, charging him with arson and mail fraud following a fire that occurred at his building located on 1st street on the north side of Des Moines.

Mr. Blobaum was represented by attorneys Matt Whitaker and Kendra Arnold from the Des Moines law firm of Whitaker Hagenow & Gustoff LLP. “This was an important win for the causes of liberty and justice,” said Mr. Whitaker. “Mr. Blobaum demonstrated to the jury that he was not involved in the fire. It is a just and satisfying result for my client.”

Des Moines attorney Matt Whitaker is the former United States Attorney for the Southern District of Iowa and this trial victory was against the US Attorney’s office that he led from 2004-2009.
