ClearPoint is reaching out to provide education and guidance to these individuals and families so they don't miss this vital opportunity for help.
Richmond, VA (PRWEB) December 13, 2012
ClearPoint Credit Counseling Solutions has been awarded a $75,000 grant from the National Foundation for Credit Counseling (NFCC) to provide Independent Foreclosure Review information to homeowners who were part of a foreclosure action on their primary residence in 2009 or 2010. ClearPoint is a member of NFCC, the nation’s largest and longest-serving nonprofit credit counseling organization.
The homeowners may be eligible for an Independent Foreclosure Review and may receive compensation or other remedy if the review finds that they were financially injured because of errors or other problems during their home foreclosure process.
"Far too many potentially eligible consumers are not getting the help they need because of misunderstandings that prevent them from requesting assistance through the Independent Foreclosure Review program," said ClearPoint’s Director of Housing Counseling, Martha Viramontes. "ClearPoint is reaching out to provide education and guidance to these individuals and families so they don't miss this vital opportunity for help."
Consumers may contact ClearPoint Credit Counseling Solutions directly at 866-625-0166 for details about the Independent Foreclosure Reviews.
Information about the Independent Foreclosure Review also is available at IndependentForeclosureReview.com or by calling 1-888-952-9105 Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.–10 p.m. ET or Saturday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m. ET.
In addition to helping consumers confirm their eligibility for a review, ClearPoint Credit Counseling Solutions will work with eligible homeowners to obtain and/or complete their official, bar-coded Request for Review Form, which must be submitted to initiate a review. Eligible homeowners have until Dec. 31, 2012 to submit their request to have their foreclosure reviewed.
As part of a consent order with federal bank regulators, 14 mortgage servicers and their affiliates have identified homeowners who were part of a foreclosure action on their primary residence during the period of January 1, 2009 to December 31, 2010. The Independent Foreclosure Review is providing these homeowners the opportunity to request an independent review of their foreclosure process. This free review will determine if they are owed a payment or other compensation because of errors during the foreclosure process. The borrower gives up nothing by requesting a review and waives no rights by accepting compensation.
In addition to its NFCC membership, ClearPoint is a system-wide accredited business with the Council on Better Business Bureaus, and a Housing and Urban Development (HUD)-approved housing counseling agency. For more information, visit ClearPoint at http://www.clearpointccs.org or call 877.877.1995.
