The Learning Edge has released its newest SAT test prep app - The Daily Word. The app, available for iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad, is a cutting-edge vocabulary review tool that ensures that students are able to build the dominant vocabulary they need to excel on the Critical Reading portion of the SAT.
The Daily Word creator, Mark Anestis, commented that one of the most common questions he hears from parents as their children go through the test preparation process is
"What can we, as parents, do to help our children successfully navigate the test-preparation process?"
Anestis points out that The Daily Word app represents a unique opportunity for parents to actively help their children improve their SAT scores. "The Daily Word allows parents to make the test preparation process with their children collaborative rather than combative. Each day, the app buzzes its user with the Word of the Day. Parents can download the app for their children and themselves and work that word into conversation to assist the learning process for these high-yield SAT words. There is no better way to learn a word than to hear the word used properly and to use that word properly yourself. Parents can reinforce the learning process and help push those reading scores higher."
The Daily Word has 4 main features:
(1) A word of the day notification: Each morning at 9 am the user is alerted to check out the Word of the Day.
(2) A notecard creation system: The notecard creation system allows students to build up stacks of words that they can study.
(3) A notecard review system: The notecard review system allows students to study their words and organize those words into different stacks based upon degree of difficulty. This ability to sort words enhances the learning process and allows students to spend more time on the words that trouble them the most.
(4) A Game Center: The Game Center lets students test their vocabulary in context. The app comes with 100 Sentence Completion questions and 100 Synonym Search questions.
