Whether this brings in experienced professionals or people first discovering the depth and breadth of the career potential in both the public and private sectors, US veterans can bring us closer to our goal of a diverse transportation workforce.
Washington, DC (PRWEB) June 06, 2012
WTS International, the association for the advancement of women in the transportation industry, has just announced that US Veterans can join the premiere career growth and networking organization free of charge for one year. The membership drive, valid for 18 months beginning July 2012, was created with a dual purpose: In recognition of veterans and their increasing employment challenges, and to move WTS forward on its mission to bring more diverse leadership to the transportation industry.
On the heels of the 2012 WTS Annual Conference in Denver, CO, this announcement was driven by many industry discussions about the future of US infrastructure, President Obama’s “Win the Future” initiative, high unemployment rates, and the high number of open positions within the transportation industry for skilled and experienced management roles.
“The WTS membership drive for both male and female veterans was created to support US veterans that haven’t considered applying their skills to the transportation industry and present them with opportunities to learn and network. Whether this drive brings in experienced professionals or men and women first discovering the depth and breadth of the career potential in both the public and private sectors, US veterans can bring us closer to our goal of a diverse transportation workforce,” said Marcia Ferranto, WTS International’s President and CEO.
While WTS is a professional industry association, it’s in a unique position to have the ear of the White House. US Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood has been integral in bringing awareness of the association to the industry at large. In addition to regularly encouraging individuals to engage with WTS programming in public announcements, he joined forces with WTS to create the Transportation YOU program, a joint initiative that encourages teen girls to follow an academic path that will lead them to a satisfying career in transportation.
The WTS International membership drive for US veterans grants a free membership to the association for one year for applications processed July 1, 2012, through December 31, 2013. For more information, visit http://www.WTSinternational.org or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
