Pier 33 Marina of St. Joseph, Michigan will be celebrating National Marina Day June 9 & 10 and the celebration is open to the public.
National Marina Day promotes the role marinas play as family-friendly gateways to boating. On National Marina Day, marinas around the country open their doors to their community as a means of introducing them to the fun and benefits of boating and the marina lifestyle.
“The waterfronts of St. Joseph and Benton Harbor is a defining quality of our area,” said Pier 33 General Manager Tighe Curran. “Pier 33 and our neighboring marinas are the keystones of recreational boating, providing services and facilities to all boats of all sizes and shapes. Boating is vital to our local economy and to the character of our communities.”
A free “Burgers, Brats & Boats” cookout will be held at the Pier 33 showroom at 250 Anchors way in St. Joseph on Saturday from Noon to 2 PM and the Pier 33 staff will provide tours of the marina to any interested visitors throughout the day. Saturday showroom hours are 9 am to 5 pm.
Visitors can also join in on Pier 33’s Fan Art Contest by creating any form of art that demonstrates a love for boating or the water and submit it in person, or on-line, to Pier 33. It can be a video, a favorite boating photo, a poem, a drawing or any other representation of fun on a boat or near the water. Pier 33 will award a variety of prizes including most original entry, best kid entry, funniest, corniest and maybe more. Enter in person, or post on-line at http://www.facebook.com/pier33marina. Entries close Sunday June 10 at midnight with judging to follow.
Pier 33 boaters will be treated to Family Photo Day on Sunday June 10th and will also be fishing Pier 33’s First Annual Carp Classic. June 9th & 10th are free fishing days in Michigan this year and no fishing licenses are required. This casual fishing dockside fishing event will have the Pier 33 staff will be patrolling the Morrison Channel to spot anglers in action, looking for the: First Fish, Uggliest Fish, Cutest Fish, Largest Fish, Youngest Angler, Eldest Angler and other categories, with a variety of prizes awarded.
Pier 33’s showroom and full facility will also be open to the public Sunday from Noon to 4 pm, with boat demonstrations and the Fan Art contest continuing, plus cool refreshments being served.
During the entire weekend, Pier 33’s Share Summer Sales Event will offer current boaters and someday-maybe-boaters-to-be an opportunity for free demonstrations aboard new boats from Chaparral, Scout and Pursuit.
