Children are made readers on the laps of their parents.

1. Keep Books With You
According to author Emilie Buchwald, “Children are made readers on the laps of their parents.” So, find a few spare pockets of time during the day and read your child a book. Having books readily accessible in your car, throughout your home or in your bag will remind you and your child to take a little time out to read together.
According to Dr. Seuss, “You’re never too old, too wacky, too wild, to pick up a book and read to a child!”
2. Turn It Off
Cut down on the TV time! Set a rule such as the TV has to be off between 10am and 6pm, and encourage reading as another form of entertainment. Invest in a bookmark with a timer so that your child can keep track of how many minutes were spent reading this summer.
3. Make Your Child the Star of the Story
Every child loves being the star of his or her own storybook. Personalized books from I See Me! feature the child’s name throughout the story. According to blogger Frugal Fabulous Finds, “As a parent and an early childhood educator, I know that one of the most important aspects of a child's life is literacy. Learning how to read, and growing up with a passion for reading is a skill that I have always believed should be taught from birth. I See Me! not only encourages a love of reading, but a way to celebrate your child and show them how special they are.”
4. Read In Front of Your Child
According to Children’s Author Maia Haag, “Young children love to emulate their parents. Make sure your child sees you reading the newspaper, a good book from your night table, a magazine, etc. When your child sees you reading, he or she is sure to want to be just like mommy or daddy. Make sure to tell them just how much you love the book that you’re reading, too.”
5. Take a Trip
Take a trip to your local library once a week. Young children love going on field trips and it is fun to spend time selecting new books.
