When it comes to diagnosing those difficult dermatology cases, Dr. Kerdel is like “House M.D.” from the popular TV show. At the June 20 grand rounds session, Dr. Kerdel and the Water’s Edge medical team will be reviewing complex skin cases.
(PRWEB) June 19, 2012
Water’s Edge Dermatology patients who have particularly complex cases will now have access to the University of Miami Hospital’s and Florida Academic Dermatology Centers’ top medical dermatologist, Francisco A. Kerdel, M.D., Ph.D.
As a leading practice with 16 locations in Southeast Florida, Water’s Edge Dermatology recently entered into a new agreement with Florida Academic Dermatology Centers for its founder, Dr. Kerdel, to review Water’s Edge’s most difficult skin cases during grand rounds on June 20.
The affiliation will provide cooperative diagnostic and treatment protocols for Water’s Edge patients and academic education opportunities for Water’s Edge physicians and providers.
“Through this collaboration, we will be able to add another level of patient service to our comprehensive medical dermatology services,” says Dwayne Montie, D.O., a double-board-certified physician and dermatologist at Water’s Edge Dermatology; and a staff member at Martin Memorial Cancer Center. “It is tremendous to have Dr. Kerdel lead our grand rounds and help us provide innovative treatment approaches for our most difficult cases.”
Dr. Kerdel, an internationally renowned researcher and leader in medical dermatology, is director of the University of Miami Hospital Dermatology Inpatient Unit, the only inpatient dermatology unit in Florida and one of very few in the U.S. Patients from throughout the U.S., Latin America and the Caribbean with difficult-to-treat skin cases are referred to Dr. Kerdel’s outpatient practice, Florida Academic Dermatology Centers, housed within the University of Miami Hospital.
“Water’s Edge is most fortunate to have Dr. Kerdel within close proximity and available for patient consultation by referral,” continues Dr. Montie. “Our Water’s Edge dermatologists, who coordinate the overall treatment plan, are ensured continuity of care with a referral to Dr. Kerdel.”
When it comes to diagnosing those difficult dermatology cases, Dr. Montie relates Dr. Kerdel to “House M.D.” from the popular TV show. At the June 20 grand rounds session, Dr. Kerdel and the Water’s Edge medical team will be reviewing complex cases of psoriasis, eczema, lupus, acne and others for diagnoses and treatment protocol. Grand rounds will begin at 3:30 p.m. at Water’s Edge Dermatology’s Palm Beach Gardens location, 600 Village Square Crossing.
Water’s Edge Dermatology also has a grand rounds agreement with Dr. Joseph L. Jorrizo, M.D., an adjunct professor of dermatology at the Weill Cornell School of Medicine, a Wake Forest University professor and the founding chair of Wake Forest’s dermatology department.
According to Dr. Montie, many patients have benefited from the grand rounds led by Dr. Jorrizo during the last seven years, including more than 200 patients from the Treasure Coast and Palm Beach County.
South Florida residents with skin problems that have not been diagnosed, or are not responding to current treatment, are encouraged to contact Water’s Edge Dermatology at 561-694-9493 for a consultation and possible inclusion in an upcoming grand rounds session.
