To mark the start of the Paralympic Games in London this summer, the Paralympic Winter Games mascot toys, Ray of Light and Snowflake, have been released for sale by Sochi 2014 licensees. The licensed toys have appeared on the shelves of over four hundred dedicated Sochi 2014 departments in the superstore chains of children's toys "Begemot" and in "Begemotik" toy shops. It is also possible to purchase the toys on the official Sochi 2014 online shop.

The Sochi 2014 licensees have plans in place to sell over one hundred thousand soft toys. The Paralympic mascots are sold in an original gift box and prices, depending on their size, ranges from 999 rubles to 1,299 rubles.

The toys are made using high quality and modern environmentally friendly materials. In autumn, the Ray of Light and the Snowflake will go on sale together as a special edition made from plush and soft plastic.

Ray of Light and the Snowflake are fantasy characters which were chosen by Paralympic champions in February 2011 during a national competition to create ideas for the Sochi 2014 mascots. According to the legend, they flew from far away galaxies and stayed on Earth to tell people about the Paralympic Games in Sochi and Paralympic values; bravery, equality, determination, inspiration and the strength of spirit, which is at the heart of every Paralympic athletes.

Sergei Kiselev, head of the chain of children's merchandise OOO TS "Begemot Hypermarket", said:

The Sochi 2014 Licensing Program was launched in February 2009. Within 5 years, licensees will release around 5,000 items of merchandise with the unique mark and brand. Total sales of official Sochi 2014 products at selling prices of the licensees may total over $500 million. Direct revenue for the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee from sales from the Licensing Program may exceed $30 million.

Several categories of official souvenir merchandise with the Paralympic mark have already gone on general sale. They include stickers from 30 rubles, stamps from 70 rubles, mugs for 100 rubles and Matryoshka dolls from 340 rubles.

Created especially for the new academic season, notepads and diaries with the Ray of Light and the Snowflake have gone on sale, which will help children to learn more about the Paralympic Movement. The most popular souvenirs, without doubt, will be the soft toys, the Ray of Light and the Snowflake soft toys are now on sale, the price of which start from 999 rubles for a 30 centimeter toy.

Moreover, keyrings, calenders, figurines of the Ray of Light and the Snowflake made from resin plastisol, puzzles, balls and baskets for toys with the Paralympic mark will soon be available.

At the end of 2011, the online shop selling Sochi 2014 licensed merchandise was opened on the basis of the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee website. The Sochi 2014 online shop became the most innovative in the history of the Olympic Movement in terms of functionality and the level of service provided: it serves customers 24 hours a day, customers can select products using a record number of variables - 15, and orders are confirmed within 15 minutes.
