Advanced Migraine Relief and Treatment Center, LLC announced today that the founder of Chronic Migraine Awareness, Catherine Charrett-Dykes, and other members of the Facebook advocacy group, will meet with Advanced Migraine Relief and Treatment Center and Dr. Jack Chapman, a pioneer in neurostimulation for migraines, to learn more about how the Transforma Procedure℠, a promising treatment for chronic migraine sufferers, can help their Facebook friends. The new procedure is only available in cities that have specially trained physicians, including Houston.

Advanced Migraine hosts seminars and webinars about the Transforma Procedure℠, based on combined occipital and supraorbital neurostimulation, which significantly reduces the severity and frequency of headaches in patients with debilitating chronic migraines. "Our role is to get information to those that have failed other treatments and help them through the process from evaluation, insurance approval, trial, permanent through follow-up," said Advanced Migraine President Greg Lewis.

CMA members from as far away as Miami and New York, hope to learn if they are a candidate for the procedure and will chronicle their journey. Members will have the opportunity to meet patient ambassador Amanda, who had the Transforma Procedure℠ in 2011. “You can’t have children when you suffer from migraines half the month,” said Amanda. “Now, I’m expecting my first child in October. The Transforma Procedure℠ changed my life. “

Members of Chronic Migraine Awareness will be gathering at the Galleria Ice Rink on Saturday, August 25, 2012 at 11 a.m. wearing CMA t-shirts to draw attention to the condition. "Chronic migraine can last for days; you can't just take 2 aspirin and feel better," said Cat. "You miss work, family time, and everything in between. We want people that don't know what it's like to suffer from migraines to recognize that it's not all in our head. We also want migraineurs to know there is hope through new treatments."

The Transforma Procedure℠ is based on combined occipital and supraorbital neurostimulation which delivers a small mild electrical signal over the occipital and supraorbital nerves through an implanted device with tiny soft wire leads. The device transfers a customized electrical pattern and can be self-adjusted via remote control. To evaluate whether or not the device will work for a patient, temporary leads are externally placed for 3 – 5 days. If the trial is successful, permanent leads are then implanted a few weeks later, followed by a short recuperation period. A sample device with leads is available for viewing at the seminars.

  •     Nearly 11 out of every 100 people suffer from chronic migraines in the United States.
  •     More women than men suffer from migraines.
  •     The exact cause of migraines is unknown, although it is generally considered that nerve pathways and neurotransmitters are involved.
