The Baileys Irish Champion Cow Competition rewards good body conformation with proven excellence in milk production and has been sponsored by the Diageo-owned brand, Baileys® for past 29 years in association with its cream supplier, Glanbia Ingredients. It recognises the top quality credentials of the Irish dairy herds supplying cream to Baileys which is produced by Diageo in Ireland, both in Dublin and just outside Belfast.
Widely acknowledged as Ireland’s most prestigious dairy livestock event, the €9,000 prize contest is the largest of its kind in Ireland. Irish Minister of State for Agriculture, Shane McEntee T.D., presented the prizes at the event which is held at the Virginia Show, in Co. Cavan, alongside Alan Quane of R&A Bailey & Co and Glanbia Chairman Liam Herlihy. Minister McEntee said, “This event grows in stature every year. With 2015 opening up challenges and opportunities for Irish agriculture, it is vital that we have strong export brands like Baileys and companies such as Diageo and Glanbia to lead the way in new international markets for Irish agri food & drink”.
Glanbia Chairman Liam Herlihy added: “These top Irish cows are producing the cream for Baileys which ends up all over the world and this competition is an excellent international showcase for the quality of our dairy produce."
