Tight end Kerry Cash brings football strategies to precious metals investing with the U.S. Gold Bureau

With the presidential election less than six weeks away and saber-rattling in the Middle East reaching a fever pitch, investors are flocking to the security of the precious metals market in record numbers. The United States Gold Bureau, a private precious metals dealer based in Texas, is offering free consultations to investors that are new to the industry and want to make sure they are doing it the right way. Investors may want to listen closely when calling, as one of the firm's precious metals specialists has a name that happens to be a homophone for an activity that the company actually advises against – “carry cash.”

Kerry Cash was a talented professional football player with six years’ experience playing tight end for the Indianapolis Colts, Oakland Raiders, and Chicago Bears. Born and raised in San Antonio, Kerry left in 1987 to attend the University of Texas on a football scholarship. Although Cash enjoyed his NFL career, he realized the average career of a football player is short (around four years), so he always had an eye toward the future. When he retired from the NFL, he looked to other passions, including his interest in precious metals.

After his time on the football field, Cash started working as a financial advisor, helping clients with traditional investments. He enjoyed working with people and helping them decide what path they should take in their financial future. Over time, Cash came to the conclusion that traditional investments were not protecting his clients during difficult times. This is when he decided to turn toward what he saw as a safer, more reliable investment—gold and precious metals. At the start of 2011, Cash was recruited to join the staff at the United States Gold Bureau as a Precious Metals Specialist. In this new role, Cash saw it as his duty to help investors overcome their fears and get started in an asset class that was growing steadily and out-performing equities in a very difficult world economy.

“The family here at the U.S. Gold Bureau calls me ‘Coach’,” says Cash. “This is not only due to my interest in helping young players and designing plays as a football coach during my spare time, but also my ability to build strategic precious metals portfolios for my clients.” Cash notes that whatever you decide to invest in, it is important to diversify. “Whether in football, investing or life in general, if you want to have different results, you can’t keep doing the same old things,” he quipped.

Cash is particularly concerned for the aging Baby Boomer population, pointing out that planning ahead is the only way to prepare for the future. “You can’t just think about your own retirement,” Cash says. “With the economy going the way it is, you have to also consider the future of your children.” As Cash put it, “Following a game-plan and executing it is something we have all been coached to do. A game-plan gives you the best opportunity to win the game.”

Cash is a long-time metals investor himself and is strongly encouraging his clients to get into the market while they still can. “I use the same strategies I recommend whenever I add pieces to my own precious metals portfolio,” said Cash, whose personal collection includes a mix of bullion and rare certified coins.

When questioned about the irony of his name, especially given his position with the Gold Bureau, Cash just chuckles. “With the inflation that is about to hit our country, carrying cash is probably not such a good strategy. But yes, my name does serve as a good conversation starter.”
Cash is not the only standout athlete working for the U.S. Gold Bureau. The staff of precious metals specialists also includes a former LA Laker, a retired Dallas Cowboy, and a skateboard stunt rider; in fact, even the CEO was an accomplished college baseball player.

The U.S. Gold Bureau offers free precious metals portfolio consultations to clients considering an investment. They can be reached at or (800) 775-3504.
