GigaOM, a global technology media company, today revealed its picks for “The Mobile 15.” While the list includes both startups, such as Waze, and mobile giants like Apple, The Mobile 15 highlights specific innovations that have the potential to significantly change the mobile landscape. For some companies, the innovations are four to five years in development, and for others, one break-through technology has put them on the list.
In assessing companies for The Mobile 15, GigaOM writers and editors reviewed dozens of candidates in categories ranging from app development to infrastructure. They looked for and uncovered new ways of building wireless networks, a surprising link between the online world and offline world, and whether companies offered services or pricing that could disrupt the status quo. This list also covers the Internet of things, new approaches to app and device development, and the business cases and pricing models accompanying them.
