Located 60 miles north of Denver and only 20 minutes from Fort Collins and Loveland, The Nike Swim Camp at the University of Northern Colorado is designed to help competitive swimmers improve their stroke technique so they can compete at the next level. Daily instruction takes place in the Butler-Hancock Pool, a 25 yard x 8 lane indoor facility.
Directing both sessions of camp is Kelly McClanahan, Northern Colorado’s Head Swim Coach. "This year's summer swim camp is designed to teach all the technical skills your child needs to advance their swimming. Each child will learn or perfect the fundamental components of competitive swimming, as well as broaden their technical ability and improve their efficiency in the water,” says Coach McClanahan. The Chattanooga, Tennessee, native swam for three years at the University of Louisville.
Campers will not only learn stroke technique lessons at this swimming camp in the pool, but will learn lessons out of the pool as well. “We also focus on the points outside the water that make great swimmers,” states Coach McClanahan. “Each swimmer will learn about nutrition, hydration, goal setting, mental imagery and many other things to help them stay a focused well-rounded swimmer..”
Offering both overnight and day camp options the goal at the Nike Swim Camp at the University of Northern Colorado is to stimulate a love for swimming by immersion in the sport and giving focused, intensive training essential to improvement. Over the course of camp the swimmer's enthusiasm and self-confidence will grow along with his or her skills.
Again in 2012 we are also offering a supplemental “starts and turns” clinic at the end of the stroke technique session. For an additional $135, campers are invited to stay an additional day and night to focus on the mechanics of their starts and turns. This is commonly the best way for age group swimmers to improve their times.
Nike Swim Camps are a great place for competitive swimmers to improve their stroke technique, starts and turns, and overall performance in the pool.
