Sussle, an encyclopedia about the things you care about, today announces that Indiana Winston Jones of Colby College has won the 2012 Sussle Scholarship. This is a $5000 scholarship awarded to the best student contributor on Sussle.
"We were so impressed by all of our top 5 finalists," said Chuck Kao, Sussle's founder. "Each had strong life goals, superior academic performance, and engaging personalities. Indiana stood out, and ultimately won, by making extraordinary contributions on Sussle."
Indiana Winston Jones, 20, is a junior at Colby College in Waterville, Maine. He is double-majoring in History and Classics and aspires to teach in his favored field. He hails from Framingham, Massachusetts, and will be interning with a Colby history professor this summer. "I'm deeply grateful to Chuck and the rest of the people who made this scholarship possible," said Indiana. "Sussle is a marvelous innovation and a boon to all who use it."
Sussle is revolutionizing scholarships by creating a nationally branded scholarship that lets students help others while helping themselves. In focus groups conducted by Sussle, students often complained about confusing scholarship rules, lengthy applications, writing essays that few would ever read, and not knowing what their chances were of winning. The most common word used to describe the scholarship application process was "dread."
Sussle created a simple scholarship that offers students a way to contribute their knowledge to help others. Rather than dreading this scholarship, students often describe Sussle as fun. A leaderboard clearly shows how participants are doing, and how competitive it is. Students also have a chance to win weekly cash awards for their efforts. Sussle offers a $5000 scholarship twice a year. The deadline for the Spring 2013 scholarship is June 30.

Sussle challenges the conventional notion of what an encyclopedia is. It's a place where you can contribute your knowledge and point of view about your passions. You can easily post text, images, video, and audio about millions of topics. The Sussle community decides on the best contributions by voting. Sussle launched in August, 2012, and is an angel-funded startup located in the San Francisco Bay Area.
