Cpl Learning & Development have teamed up with IT Tallaght Dublin to offer a Free Higher Diploma to recent graduates.

Cpl Learning & Development have been awarded an exclusive partnership with the Institute of Technology Tallaght (ITT Dublin) to provide students with a Free Higher Diploma course in “Science in Computing”. This initiative aims to address the considerable skills gap that currently exists in Ireland’s IT sector by attracting graduates whose primary degree is outside the area of computing. The technical skills and knowledge offered by this course are very much in demand at present; this programme is an ideal opportunity for students who wish to move into an entirely new and exciting industry.

Cpl Learning & Development’s dedicated team of career consultants will work closely with ITT Dublin to source suitable applicants and during the duration of the Higher Diploma, they will also provide workplace preparation workshops. Upon completion of the course, Cpl will also offer work placement assistance thanks to the support of such multinational IT giants as Microsoft, IBM, SAP, Dell and SAS, who are actively seeking graduates with this qualification.

One of the major incentives of this program is the fact that graduates, who are currently receiving Jobseekers allowance, will be able to retain this benefit throughout the duration of the course. Applicants must possess an Honours degree (Level 8) qualification in order to be eligible for the programme. Cpl Learning & Development will provide full assessment and applicant screening to ensure suitability for the course.

Speaking about this innovative new collaboration, Barry Feeney, Head of Computing at ITT Dublin said, “IT Tallaght is delighted to partner with Cpl Learning and Development in their delivery of the graduate conversion course (the Higher Diploma in Computing). IT Tallaght ran a very successful programme in 2012 resulting in quality internships for all available candidates. We recognise that partnering with Cpl in delivering the graduate conversion programme in 2013-14, helps make the IT Tallaght programme an even more compelling offering for graduates wishing to start a new career in computing.”

Barry went on to say, “The combination of highly relevant, high quality computing skills delivered by the IT Tallaght’s Higher Diploma, allied to Cpl’s expertise in helping people assess their strengths and re-orient their careers, adds real value for participants.”

Mary Carroll, Director of Careers Consultants, part of Cpl Learning & Development, praised the industry focused nature of the programme. “This is a great initiative and very relevant in addressing the skills gap in the IT market”, she said. “The fact that it’s free and participants won’t lose their benefits is a really good incentive to up skill. The course will allow graduates to apply the transferrable skills that they have obtained throughout their original degree to specific computing /IT skills in their chosen area of specialisation”.

The programme is comprised of two semesters of intensive computing education and culminates in a six month company placement.

Course options are as follows,

  •     Software Development
  •     IT Infrastructure
  •     Business Intelligence.

Cpl Learning & Development are currently seeking 40 – 50 suitable participants for the course. The start date for the programme is March 6th and the closing date for applications is Thursday the 28th of February.
