The discovery of the opiate cure as a new hope for sufferers of certain Psychiatric diseases

Doctor Robert T. Cochran, Jr. proposes what could be considered a controversial idea in medical circles. In The Opiate Cure, he asserts that certain types of psychiatric illnesses, collectively classified as the Bipolar Spectrum, are manageable, or even totally curable with the carefully measured administration of opiates.

Opiates such as morphine, codeine, methadone, and others have garnered a less-than-ideal reputation over the years, as they have been prone to be abuse by people who have become addicted to these substances. Moreover, the very idea that these drugs can do a significantly better job at controlling bipolar disorder, even migraine and narcolepsy compared to the conventional psychopharmacological medicines prescribed today sounds like something of a snake oil salesman’s claim: it’s just too good to be true.

The Opiate Cure presents case studies, observations and analyses, and even letters and correspondences with patients; all of these are contributory to the author’s central assertion. Medical professionals, friends and family of the sufferers of psychiatric diseases, and the patients themselves will certainly appreciate the insights this book has to offer.
