Diapoules & Feinstein CPAs P.C. make a statement in response to an article posted by the Union Daily Times concerning a free tax preparation service.

On March 1, Diapoules & Feinstein CPAs P.C. comment on an article published by the Union Daily Times concerning a free tax preparation service, saying that it's a great federal service that can help lower-income taxpayers to avoid tax audits and other filing issues.

Charles Warner’s article explains that a free federal tax preparation service is being offered through the town of Carlisle, South Carolina. Details with respect to availability of the service are given for those interested and eligible.

“VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) is a program of the Internal Revenue Service that provides IRS-certified volunteers who in turn provide qualified taxpayers in their communities with free basic income tax return preparation and electronic filing. The volunteers can inform taxpayers about special tax credits for which they may qualify such as Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, and credit for the elderly or disabled.”

Though the service is advertised as free, the article states that those wishing to participate in the program need to earn ess that $51,000 annually in order to qualify. W-2 forms, identification, and additional tax documents are items said to be needed should an individual want to schedule an appointment with a VITA volunteer.

The article also indicates that many are interested in taking advantage of the program. An administrative assistant with USC Union’s Continuing Education program alludes to the popularity of the program, saying that she received a lot of appointment requests in a relatively short amount of time.

James Diapoules of Diapoules & Feinstein CPAs P.C, makes a comment on qualifying taxpayers taking advantage the VITA program. “It is a simple fact that complying with our current tax laws is difficult. It is a job that our elderly and less educated are ill equipped to perform. The fact that there are so many people requesting the service shows that there is a need to be filled. It is also very honorable that there are so many tax professionals willing to give up some of their time to assist those in need.”
