Grammy Award-winning artist and entrepreneur Nelly made a special visit to his music school, ex’treme Institute by Nelly, on Monday, Feb. 25. Monday was the first day of classes for students enrolled in the two new Associate Degree Programs: Entertainment and Media Business with Management and Recording, Engineering and Producing with Management. Students received the surprise of their lives and were able to meet a true St. Louis legend and artist, Nelly.

    “This is groundbreaking. This is history,” said Grammy Award-winning rapper and St. Louis native, Nelly. “We have come up with something truly unique in this area.”

    Nelly wanted to show his appreciation to the more than 100 students enrolled in the Institute’s two Associate Degree Programs. School officials at ex’treme Institute by Nelly doubled their enrollment goals and are pleased with the success of the newly created recording arts programs in St. Louis. The Grammy Award-winner stopped by and shook hands with each student and faculty member, posed for photos and even signed a few autographs.

“Nelly’s involvement with ex’treme Institute has been integral to its success, and we are delighted that he wanted to make a special appearance on the first day for our Associate Degree students,” said Pam Bell, Chief Executive Officer and President of Vatterott Educational Centers Inc. “Nelly is making quite an impact on artists just beginning in music. With Nelly’s passion for the Institute, his experience in the music industry and his business relationships with the school’s faculty, this music school in St. Louis is making a mark on the community and the music industry. Can you imagine the ‘kick’ that this group felt to have their education in music start off this way? This is a story for them to remember their whole lives.”

The Associate of Occupational Studies Degree in Entertainment & Media Business with Management is designed to prepare students to seek employment in an array of positions on the business side of the music industry. In 80 weeks, students receive instruction in the skills of persuasive communication, advertising, public relations, management, marketing, management and sales in the entertainment industry.

The Associate of Occupational Studies Degree in Recording Engineering & Producing with Management program prepares students with technical proficiency to produce sound recordings for film/video, broadcast, live or mixed media production. Also a 70-week program, students receive instruction in sound equipment operation and maintenance, audio editing, audio recording, audio mixing, sound engineering, beat making, record production and management skills.
