Apptical Corp. releases a video explaining how PURE, its Predictive Underwriting Rules Engine, helps insurers improve the speed and consistency of underwriting.

PURE is a revolutionary offering that is changing the way insurance companies create and manage underwriting guidelines.

Creators of Apptical SoundDecisions recently released PURE, a product centric life insurance rules engine capable of rating or declining insurance policies at the point of sale.

PURE (Predictive Underwriting Rules Engine) is unique because it is product centric and has a natural language authoring tool that allows users to create life insurance specific rules without the need for programmers. Rules can be created for many types of data including but not limited to: Medical Information Bureau (MIB), Prescription History, Motor Vehicle Records (MVR), identity check, bank account, and data disclosed in an application or telephone interview.

“Now rules within an engine are product centric and transparent to underwriters and actuaries,” explained Paul Klimek, CEO and Founder of Apptical. “PURE is a revolutionary offering that is changing the way insurance companies create and manage underwriting guidelines.”

According to Paul Klimek, all insurance companies will have to incorporate automated rules engines into some aspect of their workflow in the coming years. PURE provides a means to instantiate the use of an automated underwriting engine with little internal training and nominal cost. It provides a platform so users can instantly see what they are developing and start using it. Once they are satisfied by seeing their rules run against a sample application, they can now begin making additional rules and changes to existing rules – and soon they are learning without realizing it. Apptical has developed an online structured learning plan to teach users how to use PURE. The PURE curriculum ensures that by the time users graduate, they have a strong understanding of rule building, compound rules, and how to incorporate reflexive questions. “We have developed a marketing video that provides an overview of PURE” said Paul Klimek. “After viewing the PURE Video, users should be able to ascertain if their respective companies could leverage the offering.”

PURE is a cloud-based life insurance rules engine offering that enables users to create complex, working rules in minutes. According to Klimek, it is a perfect product for the education and training of underwriters because PURE is transparent, and allows users to focus initially on the rules that interest them most. PURE is an excellent example of creating transparency in a complex environment. Using PURE, rule authors can create various types of rules specific to the life insurance industry without the need for software developers or expert users. Insurers by nature want the ability to instantly change rules to close a hole in their underwriting. PURE allows them to do just that.

“After creating the possible outcomes for an application which may include various ratings, a refer-to-manual review, or a decline, a working rule set is generated immediately, which is very rewarding to the rule author. Later, as the user absorbs more knowledge on the overall process of developing rules, the user becomes exponentially more adept at creating compound rules and reflexive questions. PURE is a win-win platform for producers, underwriters, actuaries and work flow professionals,” Klimek explained. “We believe there are hundreds of insurers that can use this automated underwriting platform and its unique methodology to more effectively acquire profitable policies. ” Klimek noted.
