"Rekolekcje", produced in 1977, was written and directed by the award winning Polish director Witold Leszesynski. The film chronicles the reunion of two friends: Marek, a filmmaker, and Adam (Cieslak), a musical composer.
"'Rekolekcje' and the performance of its brilliant lead, Ryszard Cieslak, was in danger of being exiled into obscurity and being lost forever. Boulevard Distribution is proud to release the DVD of this remarkable film," Boulevard Distribution CEO Donald Heilbrun stated.
Cieslak was a founding member of the Jerzy Grotowski troupe (also known as The Laboratory Theatre of 13 Rows, The Polish Laboratory Theatre and the Poor Theatre of Grotowski). Stage performances in "Akropolis" and "The Constant Prince" won Cieslak awards and international notoriety. Even the harshest critics of Grotowski's methods conceded that in Cieslak we had one of the finest actors of the modern era.
Literary Elizabeth Hardwick wrote "[Rekolekcje] is the only film in existence which features a 1st or 2nd generation Grotowski actor in a leading role."
The film is in Polish with English subtitles.
"Rekolekcje" is available now on Amazon.com and on boulevarddistribution.com.
