BlueStripe Software today introduced a new IT Management methodology called Service-Oriented IT Operations (SOITO), a practical framework for effective service level management. Based on the powerful idea that every IT infrastructure component should be managed based on its impact on user service levels, SOITO flips traditional IT Management on its head and allows IT Operations teams to more efficiently manage complex application environments.

“Today marks the start of a new era in Systems Management,” said Chris Neal, BlueStripe co-founder and CEO. “The Service Level Approach for IT Operations not only deploys resources more efficiently, it gives IT executives the time, budget, and credibility with the business departments they support to focus on business-driving innovation.”

SOITO establishes three laws of Service Oriented IT Operations:
1.    Transaction response times are more important than resource utilization
2.    Every component affects transaction response times
3.    Every infrastructure layer affects component response times

The “Three SOITO Laws” provide clarity for IT Operations executives around managing application performance. A new whitepaper, available for free at, outlines the three laws, what they mean to IT Operations, and how to use them to implement Service-Oriented Monitoring, Problem Management, and Problem Prevention.

IT Operations teams have embraced the responsibility of delivering high service levels, managing today’s highly complex sets of technologies and processes to limit the possibilities of high-visibility failures. The challenge for IT Operations is to efficiently detect and fix application outages before end users are impacted. SOITO outlines a pragmatic set of best practices for making organizations more effective at detecting, fixing and avoiding those application problems.

The SOITO framework will be on full display during an upcoming BlueStripe Webcast titled “It’s Tough to be Strategic When your Pants are on Fire.” This live webcast on March 20 will feature IT management veteran Vic Nyman, BlueStripe Chief Operating Officer. Vic will co-present with a Fortune 500 Infrastructure Services Director, showcasing the power of SOITO in real deployments and discussing the implications of practical application of the framework within a real IT Operations team.
