PRO Compression Recommends Compression Socks to Boost Athletic Performance

Compression socks are the latest craze among professional and amateur athletes alike. This is reportedly due to the fact that compression stockings increase muscle warm-up temperature, reduce muscle oscillation as well as increase the torque generated by the hip joint.

Additionally, recovery time has been shown to improve among athletes that wear compression socks. This is reportedly due to the socks' ability to promote blood lactate removal. According to the article, one study “observed a significant reduction in blood lactate levels in highly fit males wearing compression stockings following a bicycle ergometer test at 110 per cent VO 2max. These results were recently confirmed.” Other studies have suggested that compression clothing can reduce the muscle soreness felt after a workout.

“As studies have shown, the use of compression garments may provide a useful training tool for athletes across a wide variety of sports,” the article added.

“There are also the mental effects of wearing compression clothing,” Smith said. “Athletes rely on psychological benefits all the time. If you are wearing something that you believe will improve your athletic performance, you will be much more confident and perform better.” Smith went on to say that since there are no negative effects of wearing compression socks, athletes have nothing but upside for giving them a try.
