Hundreds to attend screening of unforgettable feature film from Academy Award-nominated director Richard E. Robbins at local college.

Today, on International Women’s Day, the UN Foundation’s Girl Up campaign and Henkel, the company behind America’s best-known consumer and industrial brands including Dial® soaps, Purex® laundry detergents, Right Guard® antiperspirants and Loctite® adhesives are bringing a global movement to educate girls around the world to Branchburg, NJ with a screening of the widely-anticipated film Girl Rising. Hundreds of teens and community members are expected to attend the screening at Raritan Valley Community College. The event will feature a musical performance by rising pop music stars, Megan & Liz.

Girl Rising is directed by Academy Award nominee Richard E. Robbins, with narrations by Cate Blanchett, Priyanka Chopra, Selena Gomez, Anne Hathaway, Salma Hayek, Alicia Keys, Chloë Moretz, Liam Neeson, Freida Pinto, Meryl Streep and Kerry Washington.

“Girl Rising spreads the message that educating girls can change the world,” said Melissa Hillebrenner, head of the Girl Up campaign. “Our partners at Henkel have helped us bring this important film to New Jersey. Together, we are working with the local community to make a difference in the lives of girls everywhere.”

The event will also include an interactive experience to learn about issues facing girls around the world through games, activities and unique physical challenges. This multimedia tour provides an opportunity for Americans to experience what it is like to be a girl living in Ethiopia, Guatemala, Liberia and Malawi.

“Henkel is honored to partner with Girl Up to bring this extraordinary event to New Jersey. Our commitment to social responsibility has been a tradition throughout Henkel’s 137-year history and our vision is to build a winning culture where diversity and inclusion become a way of doing business,” said Ingrid Cole, Vice President - Henkel Technical Customer Service, Adhesive Technologies. “This can only be achieved if we start with the youth by educating and creating awareness of the challenges facing girls around the world and the impact that girls in the U.S. can have on these issues.”

Rising Pop music sensations, Megan & Liz, will also be on hand to perform for attendees at this very special event. Megan & Liz burst onto the music scene last year and have achieved overnight success with their hugely popular music and YouTube Channels. Billboard named them in their highly-regarded 21 Under 21 List in 2012 and the duo have earned glowing reviews by the New York Times and more. “Being a part of this event is such an honor. Being raised by a single mom, we learned that women are incredibly strong and have the power to change the world,” said Megan Mace. “We are all about girl power, and we express that through our music. We were taught to be strong and passionate and told that we can do the impossible, as long as we work for it. We are proud to inspire the same message to women and girls everywhere with the voices we have!"

Girl Rising is at the center of 10x10 – a global campaign to educate and empower girls around the world. Girl Up is one of 10x10’s seven impact partners and will receive a portion of the funds raised through the 10x10 Fund for Girls’ Education. To learn more, please visit
