DEFY DIABETES movement welcomes Hispanics at ADA Feria de Salud Por tu Familia.

DEFY DIABETES announced today that they are joining forces with the American Diabetes Association (ADA) in Miami-Dade and in its inaugural participation in Calle Ocho, the nation’s largest outdoor Hispanic festival. Calle Ocho, billed as the world’s largest block party, attracts 500,000 or more Hispanics yearly to its one day festival in the Little Havana section of Miami. Started by the Kiwanis Club of Little Havana, the festival has been celebrating the Hispanic culture for over 35 years. This year, the festival also known as Carnaval Miami will be celebrating the 500th anniversary of the discovery of Florida. The DEFY DIABETES movement together with the ADA are joining the Calle Ocho festivities to show their commitment to the Hispanic community by promoting awareness of the diabetes epidemic and providing information and support. Hispanics are twice as likely to develop diabetes than the general population. “We welcome the opportunity to inform and educate the Hispanic community about managing their diabetes, or their risks for developing diabetes”, says Kendra Obrist, supporter of the DEFY DIABETES movement.

DEFY DIABETES will be exhibiting and asking people to DEFY DIABETES at the Feria de Salud: Por Tu Familia at Calle Ocho, known as Feria @ Calle Ocho. DEFY DIABETES will ask the public to join the movement as they distribute DEFY DIABETES - Strength is Everywhere bracelets, and DEFY DIABETES temporary tattoos. Photos of people holding a poster stating “I DEFY DIABETES” will be posted to for download to encourage persons with diabetes or that have pre-diabetes to visit the site for education and information on the chronic condition that affects almost 27 million people in the U.S. The DEFY DIABETES movement founded in 2013, was launched recently during speed week in Daytona Beach. DEFY DIABETES was the proud sponsor of Darrell Wallace Jr. during the Camping World Truck Series 250 in Daytona, and has partnered with BrightSky, a South Florida diabetes specialty company and Joe Gibbs, former Redskins coach, NASCAR team owner, and person with Type 2 diabetes as their national spokesperson.
