Downloadable for free and available in Bahasa Indonesia, the app functions as a personalized portable version of the online property portal. With the app, property seekers will find it convenient to browse through comprehensive property listings to buy or rent with detailed descriptions of each property, directly contact agents with a single button click, view available properties based on the user’s present location and shortlist favourites and recent searches.

Development of mobile apps is a key driver in PropertyGuru Group’s strategy to strengthen its market leadership in the region, which has seen a total of over 600,000 downloads from its existing portfolio of 12 mobile apps in 4 countries, a result of the rising demand for greater mobility of property information from an increasing digitally savvy target audience.

The Android app is the second app by to be launched, after the release of the first and only property app in the Indonesian market on the Blackberry platform, to capitalize on the world’s 2nd largest market of BlackBerry users.

The decision to develop an Android-based app stems from a growing number of Indonesian property seekers using Android smartphones. Seeing a more than 70% increase in users within the last 1 year, popularity of Android smartphones stems from its wider retail availability above its competitors as well as its easy user-interface, garnering close to 200 million mobile subscribers, and with more expected in the near future.

Mobile internet and app usage in Indonesia has exploded in recent years and is becoming an important source for long and short term business success. According to Google, increasing growth of online queries for real estate is consistent with current trends of aggressive smartphone adoption, with online search queries for real estate in Indonesia rising by 5 times in the past 2 years, a quarter of which originates from a mobile device.

A comparison between Indonesia, an emerging market economy, and an already mature free-market economy such as Singapore, also reveals further evidence pointing towards the potential opportunities mobile brings: with 109% growth in mobile search queries and 2.5 times more online property search queries as compared to Singapore, Indonesia is fast becoming one of Asia’s growing sector in mobile phone use/ownership.
