I feel passionate about healthy eating and living, and I do believe in giving back to the community, especially when the target customers are children.

In an effort to contribute to the wellness of her community, operator Rumi Olsen has dedicated herself to a new business venture with Sprout Healthy Vending. With machines soon to be available in both schools and YMCA’S throughout the Seattle area, Olsen plans to keep her focus on the youth because of their ability to adapt to change. She believes they will respond well to healthy snacks provided in their schools.

“I would like to see more kids grow up eating healthy snacks instead of junk food, in hopes that they will form healthy habits in choosing their snacks into their adulthood. I hope that starting young people on healthy diets will help the obesity epidemic in the US decrease,” voices Olsen.

After looking for a business to invest in for quite some time, she knew she found the right venture when she came across Sprout Healthy Vending. Her gluten-free and dairy-free diet, along with maintaining very healthy lifestyle routines, inspired her desire to pursue a business related to health and wellness.

“I would like to contribute to the community in a way that I believe in. I feel passionate about healthy eating and living, and I do believe in giving back to the community, especially when the target customers are children,” Rumi explains.

Sprout Healthy Vending Co-Founder Christopher Wyland sees Olsen’s professionalism and passion for health as a sure sign of success. “A healthy vending business requires a certain kind of person to run it; there must be dedication to business, health and community, and Rumi has all of that.”

Recently, The Seattle Times reported on The Center for Science in the Public Interest’s urge to the FDA to limit the amount of sugar in drinks. Arguing that the amount of caloric sweeteners in both sodas and non-carbonated beverages are not only extremely unhealthy, but also unsafe.

In alliance with the Center for Science in the Public Interest’s efforts, Sprout Healthy Vending is dedicated to regulating sugar in the beverages in their machines. With the Federal guidelines limiting the sugar content of beverages sold in public schools to be made up of less then 35% sugar by volume, Sprout carefully selects beverage choices that not only comply to this law, but ban products that contain fake sugars like aspartame and high fructose corn syrup.

Rumi believes that these health regulations for both snacks and drinks in Sprout machines will be successful in the Seattle area because of the common concern for health among locals.

“In general, people here are already health conscious and like organic and natural foods. It’s part of our culture,” Olsen affirms.
