EPS Literacy and Intervention, a division of School Specialty, Inc., today announced that S.P.I.R.E.® Decodable eBooks, which includes 120 titles, are now available for download from Amazon.com, BarnesandNoble.com, and the iTunes store. These eBooks support instruction in the S.P.I.R.E. (Specialized Program Individualizing Reading Excellence) program and can also be used with other phonics based programs or independently to support beginning or struggling readers. EPS is offering two review copies to qualified individuals who will post reviews.

S.P.I.R.E. 3rd Edition, which launched in 2012, is a comprehensive and multisensory reading intervention program that integrates phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, spelling and comprehension in a 10-Step Lesson plan especially designed for struggling readers. S.P.I.R.E. has been used throughout the country with great success by thousands of students who need a direct, systematic, and sequential approach to reading. Based on the Orton-Gillingham approach, S.P.I.R.E. incorporates the most recent research regarding best practices in reading and language arts instruction. The program incorporates many opportunities for practice, ensuring students experience continuous and visible success.

“Providing our S.P.I.R.E. Decodable eBooks for a range of tablet devices in today’s schools gives teachers a powerful tool for engaging struggling readers and helping them build critical literacy skills,” said Rick Holden, president, EPS Literacy and Intervention. “We are excited to hear what teachers think about our S.P.I.R.E. Decodable eBooks and look forward to reading their reviews.”

The S.P.I.R.E. Decodable eBooks provide students with a new and engaging practice opportunity. The books’ captivating topics and illustrations will appeal to young and reluctant readers. Books increase in difficulty so there is a wide variety of challenge within the series. Both teachers and parents will find S.P.I.R.E. Decodable eBooks fit easily into children’s daily routines, either at school as part of independent reading or fluency practice, and at home where parents and their children can read the books together. To assist teachers and parents, each title includes lists of target phonic concepts and sight words, as well as phonics skills the students may already know.
