CRE Outbreaks on the Rise - by Taking Special Precautions, the Fight Against Life Threatening Infections can Greatly Diminish

BioScience Laboratories proves antimicrobial efficacy against Carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE).

CRE - Carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae

CRE, which stands for carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae, are a family of bacteria that are difficult to treat because they have high levels of resistance to antibiotics. Klebsiella species and Escherichia coli (E. coli) are common examples of Enterobacteriaceae, a normal part of the human gut bacteria, which can become carbapenem-resistant. Types of CRE are sometimes known as KPC (Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase) and NDM (New Delhi Metallo-beta-lactamase). KPC and NDM are enzymes that break down carbapenems and make them ineffective.

As hospitals and nursing homes around the world continue to fight against the spread of pathogenic, drug resistant germs, utilizing best practices in surface cleaning and disinfection combined with scrupulous attention to proper hand-hygiene practices, the fight against life threatening infections can be greatly diminished.

Using disinfectants, hand sanitizers and antimicrobial soap products that have proven to be effective in killing CRE specific organisms and other Drug-Resistant Bacteria, such as MRSA, is paramount to creating a germ free environment and greatly reduces the spread of deadly bacteria.

BioScience Laboratories has recently added several new strains of carbapenem-resistant enterobacteriaceae to its extensive library of Multi-Drug Resistant Bacterial Strains and is conducting disinfectant, hand sanitizer and antimicrobial soap efficacy testing against these “Super Bug” strains, including MRSA, VRE, MDR-Pseudomonas and C. difficile.

Now in its 22nd year, BioScience Laboratories, Inc. provides product testing services and specializes in antimicrobial and disinfectant product evaluations. BioScience Laboratories, Inc., an independent testing laboratory, conducts testing and provides results grounded in science. BioScience Laboratories assists its clients in bringing new products to market and/or strengthening their current market positions in the healthcare, pharmaceutical, personal care and consumer products markets.
