Following an article about how the U.S. is allowing spy agencies to view Americans’ finances such as credit scores, Rapid Recover Solution releases a statement.

On March 15, 2013, Rapid Recovery Solution releases a statement following a Chicago Tribune article which states that in an effort to battle terrorism, the U.S. is allowing spy agencies to view the finances of American citizens, and anyone else who banks in the country.

According to the Chicago Tribune article, plans are being drawn up to give all U.S. spy agencies full access to a huge database which contains the financial data on all American citizens and those who chose to bank in the U.S. The plan is part of the ongoing effort to battle terrorism, and will be used to help agencies spot and track down terrorist networks.

The article mentions that “The Federal Bureau of Investigation already has full access to the database. However, intelligence agencies, such as the Central Intelligence Agency and the National Security Agency, currently have to make case-by-case requests for information to FinCEN. The Treasury plan would give spy agencies the ability to analyze more raw financial data than they have ever had before, helping them look for patterns that could reveal attack plots or criminal schemes.”

The article goes on to state that before this bill was drawn up, financial institutions were expected to, and did, report suspicious activity, such as someone exceeding a $10,000 cash transaction at a bank.

Of course there are those who are against such a massive amount of data being shared, and according to Stephen Vladeck, a professor at American University’s Washington College of Law, advocates have already begun to push back against it.

Vladeck was quoted as saying, “One of the real pushes from the civil liberties community has been to move away from collection restrictions on the front end and put more limits on what the government can do once it has the information."

John Monderine, CEO of the New York-based collection services experts, Rapid Recover Solution, offers his comments on the new bill. “Something like this is great for fighting terrorism, but those who are against it do have some ground to stand on. Having your information shared even more than normal always increases the chances of something happening to it. That’s why when something like this is issued in the U.S., it’s always a good idea to monitor your credit score and make sure all your debts are taken care of.”
