The Alliance to Feed the Future will join in the celebration of National Agriculture Day on March 19 and recognize the significant contributions farmers and producers make to providing a safe, affordable, abundant food supply.
“Since the Alliance was launched two years ago, we have worked to raise awareness and increase public appreciation for the role farming, production, distribution and consumption play in modern America – especially for our younger generations, who are further removed from the farm than ever before,” said Dave Schmidt, President and CEO at the International Food Information Council, which coordinates the Alliance. “Our educational curricula offer teachers the opportunity to insert lessons about the food-production process from farm to fork, including agriculture, food processing and technology, food safety, and nutrition, into their daily lesson plans, making learning about food production easy and fun.”
The members of the Alliance to Feed the Future include professional societies, universities, industry and commodity groups, in a coordinated effort to tell the true story of modern food production. The Alliance to Feed the Future website (http://www.alliancetofeedthefuture.org) is home to new educational curricula, Lunchbox Lessons: Professor G.U. Eatwell and the Journey from Farm to Fork, as well as hundreds of helpful resources and information regarding modern food production from farm to fork.
National Agriculture Day, organized by the Agriculture Council of America, is a day to recognize and celebrate the abundance provided by agriculture. Every year, producers, agricultural associations, universities, government agencies and countless others across America join together to recognize the contribution of agriculture.
