RX400 Large-Duty Crawler for ROVVER X Systems

This crawler opens up a whole new realm of inspection capabilities, but does so without requiring the purchase of a whole new system.

Designed to inspect even the toughest trunk lines and interceptors, the new RX400 crawler body boasts a built-in remotely operated camera lift with 17.5” of vertical travel—enough to center viewing in a 60” line, and suitable for inspecting pipe up to 10’ in diameter. The new crawler integrates seamlessly with any ROVVER X system, so an owner can use his existing controls, reel and camera.

“The RX400 is another example of what we call ‘infinite upgradeability,’ the core principle of the ROVVER X platform,” says Richard Lindner, President of Envirosight. “This crawler opens up a whole new realm of inspection capabilities, but does so without requiring the purchase of a whole new system. The existing system components—the controls, the reel, the camera, the accessories—are open enough and intelligent enough to work with any new component we design.”

The RX400 offers the same high-end features as the more compact RX130—selectable 412/640Hz sonde, an illuminated rear-view camera, an expansion port for an elevated rear-view camera, a clutch, and sensors for tilt, roll, pressure, temperature, pressure and lift height. In addition, it delivers the increased illumination large pipes demand with four aimable LED tri-lamps and twin LED path lamps. Opposing rangefinders at the camera head allow automatic view centering (particularly useful for DigiSewer side-scanning), as well as accurate measurement of pipe diameter. Two sizes of pneumatic tire come standard, the smaller of which allows inspection of lines down to 24” in diameter.

Two high-powered drive motors more than compensate for the RX400’s increased size and weight. The new crawler accepts ROVVER X’s standard DigiSewer side scanning and laser profiling accessories. Shipment on orders will begin June, 2013.

ROVVER X is the one pipe inspection system that lets an operator do everything—control inspections, view and record digital video, log observations, generate reports, and link directly to asset-management software. All this capability is packed into a simple three-piece layout, with no CCU or other components to clutter the workspace.

Though remarkably self-contained, ROVVER X is built on an expandable digital backbone. Not only can an operator add side-scanning and laser profiling, he or she can view data from onboard sensors, automate tasks with macros, and measure defects onscreen. And future capabilities are limitless—ROVVER X’s firmware updates automatically to the latest features, and its architecture is ready for any accessory—even ones that don’t yet exist.

Advanced technology aside, ROVVER X is built for the rigors of sewer inspection. Twelve wheel options—plus camera lift, carriage and illumination accessories—mean ROVVER X transforms in seconds to inspect any size line. Its six-wheel drive with proportional steering navigates past obstacles, and overlapping wheels climb offsets better than tracks. Powerful motors and a geared drive train maximize range and pivot capability, even with carriage and 10” knobby tires installed.

Ultimately, however, reliability and productivity have made ROVVER the number one crawler brand worldwide. ROVVER X continues this tradition with unsurpassed video resolution and 50% more illumination, leaving no detail hidden. Its powerful reel monitors cable tension optically to prevent slack and minimize resistance, allowing one-man operation. And self-diagnostic capabilities, plus access to operating history, only enhance the uptime of the one crawler that already leads the industry.
