The 5th Annual International Youth Conditioning Association wrapped up Saturday in Louisville, Kentucky. During the event, the youth fitness and athlete development organization announced Phil Hueston as its 2013 Coach of the Year.

Held each of the past five years at the historic Brown Hotel in Louisville, Kentucky, the IYCA Summit brought together youth trainers and coaches in order to improve the state of child athletics in the United States and abroad.

As the event wound down on Saturday, the organization named its 2013 Coach of the Year: Phil Hueston of Toms River, New Jersey.

Hueston, an IYCA certified Youth Fitness Specialist, was recognized for his innovative contributions to the field of young athlete development. For over eight years, Hueston has worked with young athletes to bring out their full potential on and off the field.

Using a no-nonsense, results-oriented approach to training youth athletes, Phil claims that the most effective training is training the athlete enjoys. As a result, he formed the All Star Sports Academy in his home state of New Jersey to provide athletes the tools they need to develop athletically.

Over the past six years, Hueston’s clients have included over 28 All-County and All-Shore athletes, six All-State athletes, 11 Division I scholarship athletes, and a first-round NHL Draft Choice.

“Phil embodies what the IYCA has been all about since its inception: a commitment to guiding young athletes to be the best that they can be,” says IYCA President Nick Berry. “We thought this was the perfect opportunity to recognize him for his dedication and approach to youth.”

Beyond the naming of its Coach of the Year, Saturday’s final day of the IYCA Summit featured hands on coaching sessions from some of the industry’s leading experts in youth athlete development.

Among the speakers at the event were former IYCA Coach of the Year Melissa Lambert, resistance band training expert Dave Schmitz, and Eric Cressey of Cressey Performance.
