During Free Webinar, Henley-Putnam Professor Praveen Abhayaratne will Provide a Glimpse of the LTTE's Tactics in Context

Henley-Putnam professor Praveen Abhayaratne, an expert on international security issues in Asia, will present “The LTTE Armory of Terror – A Glimpse of Their Tactics in Context.”

Henley-Putnam University is pleased to announce the next installment in its Strategic Security webinar series. On March 28th, 2013 at 1:00 PM, EDT, Henley-Putnam professor Praveen Abhayaratne, an expert on WMD terrorism and terrorist tactics, will present “The LTTE Armory of Terror – A Glimpse of Their Tactics in Context.” Those interested in participating in the webinar should register at https://www2.gotomeeting.com/register/511500074.

During the webinar, Professor Abhayaratne will provide an in-depth overview of the conflict surrounding the LTTE, including:

  •     The role of terrorism in the conflict – terrorism as strategy.
  •     The LTTE’s theater of war and its many fronts – political, diplomatic, financial, land, sea, and air.
  •     Tactics by weapon – from knives to purpose-built sea craft, including selected incidents and images.
  •     Systematic terror - The LTTE's strategy of terror.
  •     Lessons for the global war on terror – applicable observations from the defeat of the LTTE.

The webinar is open to the public and completely free of charge.

The Henley-Putnam webinar series, launched in 2009, was designed to bring the hands-on experience of former members of the CIA, Secret Service, FBI, and intelligence and law enforcement communities, both federal and local, to those seeking careers in Strategic Security. Mr. Abhayaratne is an Instructor in the Counterterrorism and Intelligence Management Programs at Henley-Putnam University. Formerly a Research Associate at the Weapons of Mass Destruction Terrorism Research Program (WMDTRP) at the Center for Nonproliferation Studies, California, he managed the maintenance and qualitative review of the Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) Terrorism Database. In this capacity, he also performed various analytical roles for Department of Defense and Intelligence Community funded projects. His current research interests include WMD terrorism, terrorist tactics and targeting, threat assessment, and international security issues in Asia. He has published on WMD Terrorism, the LTTE, presented to various international organizations and audiences on security and terrorism related subjects, and continues to consult internationally on regional security and terrorism related issues.

He holds an MA in International Policy Studies from the Monterey Institute of International Studies with certificates in Nonproliferation and Conflict Resolution. He holds a BA from Washington College, Maryland in International Studies and Economics.
