O&CO., a Provence-based purveyor of exceptional Mediterranean culinary products, is pleased to unveil its 2013 New Harvest Collection, an assortment of hand-selected Extra Virgin olive oils from renowned olive groves throughout the Mediterranean. The 2013 harvest oils will be available in O&CO.’s 83 boutiques worldwide, including six locations in the U.S., and online
(http://www.oliviersandco.com). This year’s harvest, dominated by grassy notes, features not only oils from new producers, but several outstanding oils which were old favorites that were not available in recent harvests. Each year, Albert Baussan, O&CO.’s Chairman and CEO, and his team of dedicated experts including Éric Verdier, O&CO.’s Sensorial Analyst, travel the Mediterranean to hand-select O&CO.’s Extra Virgin olive oils from the region’s finest artisanal growers. To date, 22 oils have been chosen for the harvest, but the selection process is ongoing, with more Grand Cru oils to come.

With the 2013 harvest, O&CO. is breaking additional new ground in the industry with the addition of the polyphenol count indicated on the label of oils which have a count of over 350 mg. per kg. O&CO. is proud to offer several olive oils from this harvest with extremely high polyphenol counts, both delicious and full of antioxidants, a true gift from Mother Nature.

O&CO.’s rigorous selection process involves using all the senses in order to determine the quality of each estate’s terroir and the craftsmanship behind each oil. In order to finalize each season’s selection, O&CO. brings together a tasting committee under the leadership of Éric Verdier. This committee compares the grades and evaluations among the group of oils to isolate the sensory characteristics of each vintage. Éric Verdier remarks, “Each one of our crus d’exception carries its own identity and uniqueness branded by its terroir. And, each is an invitation to a sensuous journey to the heart of the Mediterranean. Whether one prefers them to be creamy and unctuous, or lively and fruity, or even grassy and intense, our new olive oils were created to charm your palate."

The number of new oils in each harvest varies yearly, depending on the seasons harvest conditions and choices made by O&CO. through a meticulous selection process which preserves the integrity of the oils and, ensures the highest quality product. As a result, O&CO.’s olive oil vintages are available only in strictly limited quantities. The olive oils featured in this year’s new harvest collection are the best expression of the region, its trees, olive varieties, pressing facilities and methods, and the artisanal producers who create the oils , featuring a wide and diverse range of taste profiles from the various oil-producing regions.

O&CO. strives to provide consumers with a sense – and taste – of the regions where their oils are produced, while showcasing the work and dedication of the passionate grower behind each vintage. Each bottle of O&CO. Extra Virgin olive oil features a label designed to help educate consumers and tell the story behind the oil. The labels highlight key information including olive variety, the estate and olive grove from which it was produced, country of origin, the "best before date" and the date of the harvest. This information ensures the olive oil is of the freshest and highest quality and consumers can reference this label to take advantage of the oil’s freshness and to gauge the intensity of its aroma over the subsequent eighteen months, the period when the oil is at its prime.
